Advertising Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 5 September 2026
By purchasing advertising on SLCompare you agree to these terms. Please read them before submitting an ad — most of what we decline comes down to sections 2 to 7.
Eligibility
Advertising is available to businesses registered on SLCompare. Banner advertising and featured listings are included with the Pro and Elite plans; zone sponsorship is available on Elite. Ads are placed and paid for from your business wallet, and you are responsible for everything placed under your account.
What you may advertise
Ads must be for a Second Life business, place, product, service or event. Advertising for real-world businesses, products or services is not permitted, including where the advertiser also operates in Second Life.
Where your ad appears
Category pages carry ads from that category only: land and estate businesses on Land & Parcels, breedable market businesses on Breedable Markets. The homepage is open to any Second Life business. We may decline an ad that does not suit the page it was booked for.
Ad content
Artwork must be suitable for a General audience on every page, whatever the maturity rating of your business or region. No nudity, no sexual or suggestive content, and no depictions of sexual activity. Businesses operating adult regions are welcome to advertise; the ad itself must still be General. Ads must also be accurate and not misleading, and must not contain hate speech, harassment, or anything that breaches Second Life's Terms of Service.
Brands and impersonation
You may name a breedable or product brand to describe what you sell or stock — for example, that you sell a particular breed of animal. You must not present yourself as that brand, use its logo as your own, or imply an endorsement, partnership or official status you do not have. The same applies to other businesses listed on SLCompare.
Competing services
Ads for comparison sites, directories or listing services competing with SLCompare are not accepted.
Where your ad links
An ad may open a web address or a Second Life location, or show a short message. Links must begin with https:// or secondlife://, must go where the ad says they go, and must keep working for the life of the booking. An ad whose link is dead or misleading may be paused.
Approval
Every ad is reviewed before it goes live. We may decline an ad that does not meet these terms, and we will tell you why. A declined ad can be corrected and resubmitted free of charge within 24 hours — the original booking still stands and there is nothing further to pay. If it is not resubmitted within 24 hours, the payment is returned to your business wallet automatically.
When your time starts
Your booked time starts when the ad is approved, not when it is paid for. An ad waiting in review does not lose days.
Placement and rotation
Banner ads appear in a rotation pool and share the available positions with other advertisers, so an ad is not on screen at all times. Zone sponsorship is exclusive: one sponsor per zone per page at a time.
Waiting list
If every position is taken, an ad can still be booked and reviewed in advance. Approved ads go live automatically as soon as a position frees, in the order they were booked, and the booked time starts from that moment. Changes made while waiting need approval again before going live.
Extending a live ad
A live ad can be extended for as long as nobody is waiting for that position. The extension begins when the current booking ends rather than on the day it is bought, so nothing is lost by extending early, and the ad stays live throughout with no further review. Extensions are charged at the price current at the time of extending, including any discount then running.
Payment and refunds
All payments are in Linden Dollars from your business wallet. Payment for an approved ad is not refundable, except where these terms say otherwise: an ad declined and not resubmitted within 24 hours is refunded in full and automatically. Wallet balances are spent on SLCompare services and are not exchangeable for Linden Dollars.
If a live ad breaches these terms
We may pause a live ad that breaches these terms. A paused ad stops appearing and its booked time stops running, so the days it is down are added back when it goes live again — you do not lose what you paid for. We will tell you what the problem is; you can then edit the ad in your portal and resubmit it for review.
Removal
For serious or repeated breaches, or content we consider unacceptable, we may remove an ad rather than pause it. We will explain why. Removal in these circumstances is without refund.
Liability
SLCompare is not liable for any claims, damages or disputes arising from the content of your ads, or from dealings between you and anyone who responds to them.
Changes
These terms may be updated at any time. Bookings already approved continue under the terms in force when they were approved. Continued use of SLCompare advertising after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
