Swap in a new counter without losing your auction, your name or your figures.
When a new Crowd Counter is released you replace the object rather than change anything inside it. Your auction, its name, its range and every figure it has already collected stay exactly where they are.
Touch the SLC Crowd Counter Update Terminal at Redlion (240, 15, 40). It sits beside the bridge terminal, and its floating text tells you which version it's holding.
You'll get a box. Touch it in your inventory to unpack.
Put the new counter down within about 5 metres of the one it's replacing — normally you'd rez it right where the old one stands anyway.
That closeness is how it knows which counter you mean. If you run more than one auction floor on the same region, it makes sure the right one hands over.
It shows Touch to set up. Touch it and you'll be asked:
Choose Migrate.
The old counter turns orange:
Settings handed over DO NOT DELETE until the new counter says Ready
The new one connects and comes up with the same serial, the same auction and the same settings.
Don't delete the old one before then. It's holding your settings until the new counter has them, and if anything goes wrong you can carry on with it as before.
Once the new counter says Ready, right-click the old one and delete it.
Done. Nothing to reassign, and no leftover counter cluttering your portal.
Migration works from v1.6 onwards. The old counter needs to be able to hand its settings across, and versions before that can't. If yours is older, choose Set up instead, then open the Auctions tab in your portal and pick which auction it counts for. You only have to do this once — every update after that can migrate.
Nothing answered? After a minute the new counter gives up and tells you so. The old one has to be within about 5 metres, still rezzed, and owned by the same avatar. Move the new one closer and touch it again, or choose Set up.
Your figures are safe either way. Past attendance belongs to the auction, not to the object, so it stays in your portal whatever you do with the counter itself.
